Maryn M. Boess
Training Director
Maryn M. Boess, principal of GrantsUSA, LLC, and JUST GRANTS! Arizona and founding publisher of the Arizona Guide to Grants & Giving, has committed her career to supporting Arizona's grants community since the mid-1980s. From 1986 through 1996, her grant research and funding proposals attracted some $26 million in new dollars for human services and education programs in Arizona. Her skill-building workshops on grantsmanship, collaboration, organizational effectiveness, and other topics attract many hundreds of participants statewide every year.
Lisa Olivas-Cook, CFRE
Lisa Olivas-Cook is a highly effective fund raising professional with over two decades of experience providing leadership and direction in support of organizational goals and ambitions. Her approach is mission driven, team oriented, and strategic minded. Areas of expertise include annual giving, marketing communications, new program development, grantsmanship, special events management, and nonprofit finance and administration. In 2004 Lisa was featured in the Chronicle of Philanthropy with a full-page article, and has been subsequently cited in other articles in the same and other publications. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada-Reno, and earned the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation in 1997, successfully re-certifying in 2000, 2003, and 2006. Over the years Lisa has held key leadership roles in both the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the American Association of Grant Professionals (AAGP). Lisa became a certified GrantsUSA instructor in 2004 and teaches a variety of classes on grantsmanship. Participants in her workshops consistently remark on her engaging style that encourages active interaction.
Barbara Polston
Barbara Polston is a seasoned consultant specializing in grants fundraising. Her firm, Polston & Associates LLC, has served nonprofit clients with budgets ranging from $250,000 to $13 million, successfully raising friends and funds for each. She practices what she teaches, allowing Barbara to bring a wealth of personal experience to the training room. Certified as a Just Grants! Arizona trainer in 2002, she has developed course curriculum and trained at venues across the country. Barbara’s professional affiliations have included the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the American Association of Grant Professionals. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Quilters Guild, The National Quilting Association, and is the founder and president of the Arizona Quilters Hall of Fame. Barbara holds a BA in Marketing, an MA in Theological Studies and has earned a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Arizona State University.
